Google Chrome is a great web browser with many extensions. However, when you install many extensions, your toolbar will look very disorganized because all of extension icons have different size, color and style. As a designer, it is intolerable to use ugly browser everyday. Here is a way to customize Google Chrome’s extension icons on the toolbar.
All of extension icons are stored in this folder.
C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions
If you are using a Mac computer, you can access to the folder from Go > Go to Folder… (or press “SHIFT”, “COMMAND” and “G”)
To identify which folder has the icon you want to edit, type “chrome://extensions/” in the address bar in Chrome. The extension’s ID will be the name of the folder you have to look and find icon image files. If you have hard time finding icon image file, just search “.png” or “.gif” to find only image file in the folder.
After you find the image file, edit with a image editing software such as GIMP or Photoshop.
